Modern Apprenticeships – a foot in the door
A modern apprenticeship is a work-based education initiative for young people. It is a standard apprenticeship with additional features, tailored to help young people access employment-based training towards a career in plumbing, gasfitting or other trade qualifications.
Employers win too
Modern apprenticeships have been developed, in part, to address employers’ need to attract, recruit, manage and retain capable young people into their workplace.
PGDR ITO plays its part
Modern apprenticeships are administered by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), which contracts the services of several modern apprenticeship coordinators for plumbing and gasfitting – including the PGDR ITO, which has modern apprenticeship co-ordinator status in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Eastern, Central, Wellington and Canterbury.
To be eligible, apprentices must be under 22 years of age on the date of starting an apprenticeship.
